Higuain nears Arsenal move

Gonzalo Higuain celebrates after putting Real Madrid in front just six minutes into their game at Real SociedadGettyImagesGonzalo Higuain has become Arsenal's number one target ahead of next season Arsenal are moving closer to securing the services of Gonzalo Higuain, with the Mirror reporting Arsene Wenger has met with the player and his father Jorge as discussions enter the final stages. The Gunners are tipped to fend off Juventus' interest in Higuain with a £20 million bid for the Real Madrid striker. Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is ready to fork out the money for Higuain's capture and the £130,000-a-week salary he is currently earning at the Bernabeu. Arsenal and Manchester United are prepared to begin a battle for £40 million-rated Cesc Fabregas. According to the Sun, David Moyes is keen to recruit Fabregas and has urged the board at Old Trafford to splash the cash for the Barca midfielder. Arsenal have first refusal on Fabregas, who they sold to Barca in 2011, although the 26-year-old insists he is prepared to fight for his place at Camp Nou. Moyes will offer Fabregas a regular starting place at United as he looks to restructure the Red Devils. Fabregas may be tempted by the opportunity to link up with fellow Spaniards Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla at Arsenal, but the Premier League champions appear a more realistic target. Finally, Jose Mourinho will hold talks with Chelsea captain John Terry next week to discuss the defender's future at Stamford Bridge. The Daily Star reports Mourinho may not see Terry as part of his plans at Chelsea, particularly given their relationship when the Portuguese boss left the club in 2007. But the Mirror claims Mourinho's addition may be the key to prolonging Terry's career with the Blues, insisting the 32-year-old is confident of having his contract extended until 2016.
